The film takes place entirely inside one Paris apartment building, in the melting pot of the 11th arrondissement. Like a microcosm of the city itself, most of the waves of immigration that nourished this capital since the turn of the century, are represented here, nestled alongside elderly Parisian natives, in apartments conceived in the late 19th century by the famous Baron Haussmann, to please a bourgeois clientele. The film is an attempt to tell, through its occupants, a history of Paris since four generations.
